JANOWSKI: FOCUSED ON FORM NOT WILD CARDS
Polish star Maciej Janowski insists he isn’t thinking about his FIM Speedway Grand Prix wild-card hopes, despite racing to third place in the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens last Saturday.Janowski started the series as second substitute rider but has competed in the past five rounds, first replacing Andzejs Lebedevs in Gorzow, before covering for Tai Woffinden in the last four. After falling short of the Cardiff semi-finals in the tightest of tiebreaks – due to having a lower FIM ranking than three other riders, he reached the semis in home event Wroclaw, scoring nine championship points, and Riga, where he collected 12.But last Saturday saw Janowski reach his first SGP final since the 2022 season finale in Torun – the night he sealed his Speedway GP World Championship bronze medal. He now hopes to take that form into the season finale, the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun on September 28.With Janowski not taking part in the FIM SGP Challenge in Pardubice on October 4, a permanent wild card call-up is his best hope of regaining his place in Speedway GP full-time for 2025. Another big performance in Torun could help his cause. But having missed out on a pick a year ago, Magic is focusing purely on his performances rather than on a decision he cannot control. He said: “I am not thinking about the wild cards now. I am just trying to concentrate on every meeting and have as much fun as I can. I really enjoy racing a speedway bike and that’s the most important thing for me. If I am happy on the bike, the results are also good. I am trying to give my best performance in every race.”Janowski’s Vojens podium finish would not have been possible if he had not agreed to take the second substitute spot, despite his bitter disappointment at not getting a full wild card.He said: “To be honest, when I agreed to be second reserve, I was not in the best mood about Speedway GP. But I am trying to be a professional rider and represent all my sponsors. I want to compete with the best riders, and they are in the GP. This is what I try to do and that’s why I agreed to be the second reserve.”Taking his chance has given Janowski the opportunity to end 2024 on a high in Speedway GP. And Magic was pleased to continue a strong finish by reaching his first semi-final and final in Vojens last weekend. He said: “The end of the season has been pretty good for me. I am very happy about that. It’s very good to be back on the podium in Speedway GP. That’s always a great feeling. But when you get to the final, you always want to win.“I am very happy because Vojens never used to be a good place for me. I am happy that I have finally scored good points. I am feeling great. It was a good night.”
MJJ STARS AS SLANGERUP ENDS 13-YEAR DANISH TITLE DROUGHT
Former Speedway GP star Michael Jepsen Jensen raced to 12 points for Slangerup as they ended their 13-year wait for Danish Speedwayligaen gold at the Super Final in Holsted on Wednesday.Despite Slangerup competing without injured talisman Mikkel Michelsen, they still took gold on 42 points with a rock-solid team performance that earned them the Danish championship for the first time since 2011.An unforgettable night for the Zealand club also featured a 10-point haul from Andreas Lyager, nine from former world No.2 Patryk Dudek, six from 2012 Speedway GP world champion Chris Holder and five from SGP2 rider Villads Nagel.MJJ has ended the 2024 season in red-hot form and was elated to win his first Speedwayligaen title after what has been a tough time for him personally. He told Speedwayligaen live: “I have not won the Danish league before, so it means a lot. Also doing it with Slangerup, where I have been since 2016, means a lot. The support from the club has certainly helped my development this season.“I have done a lot of things that have made the season good. But I was a little nervous. I wanted to train at the weekend and on Tuesday, but unfortunately my grandfather has just passed away, so that didn't happen. I was a bit nervous after not being on the bike for a few weeks. But it went well.”Hosts Holsted finished second on 33, with SGP2 star Bastian Pedersen bagging 15 points, while former Danish champion Rasmus Jensen followed up his charge to the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens semi-finals by scoring 14.Vojens team Sønderjylland Elite Speedway took third place on 32, with triple Danish champion Anders Thomsen scoring half of their points on 16.And Fjelsted took fourth spot on 25, with double SGP2 champion Mateusz Cierniak and Danish international Frederik Jakobsen leading the way on eight points apiece. For full details of the result and scorers, CLICK HERE.
ELITSERIEN | ZMARZLIK MAX GIVES LIONS EDGE IN SWEDISH TITLE FIGHT

MICHELSEN ON ROAD TO RECOVERY
European champion Mikkel Michelsen is beginning his road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery on his shattered humerus and shoulder joint.Michelsen suffered the injuries when he crashed in his opening ride at the OlyBet FIM Speedway GP of Latvia – Riga on September 7.The Dane went under the knife last Thursday and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season, including the final Speedway European Championship round in Chorzow on Saturday and the Speedway GP finale in Torun on September 28.Michelsen is now taking some time to heal before beginning his rehabilitation and he took to his Facebook page to give fans an update. He posted: “Hey Everyone, it has been a rough couple of days since the surgery on Thursday morning. I was discharged from hospital on Friday evening and have been trying to relax and recover since then.“The surgery went according to plan and the surgeon was happy with the results. I underwent a four-hour long procedure where he fixed my shattered humerus and shoulder joint. Now it needs time to heal before hopefully soon starting some rehab. “The fractured elbow should heal on its own and, after scans on my foot, we found out that my heel is fractured as well. The road to recovery is long but there’s light at the end of the tunnel! “Once again, thank you so much for all your get well wishes, messages and calls. It means a lot. Kind regards, MM.”Michelsen still has a chance of securing qualification for the 2025 Speedway GP series, as he holds the sixth and final automatic spot on 101 points currently.Australia’s Jack Holder is four points behind on 97 after scoring two at the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens last Saturday. He needs at least five points to overhaul Michelsen for sixth spot. Should Holder score four, he would be ranked lower than the Dane on countback as Michelsen has achieved two fifth places to Holder’s one – both have a win, a third and a fourth place.Polish international Dominik Kubera will also have the last top-six spot in his sights. He is eighth on 88 and will need to at least reach the final in Torun to have any chance of finishing above both Holder and Michelsen. We wish Mikkel all the best with his recovery.

Poland’s five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik cemented his spot among FIM Speedway’s greats – and immediately braced himself for questions about chasing title No.6.Zmarzlik finished second in the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on Saturday, with Great Britain racer Robert Lambert powering to his first-ever SGP victory at Denmark’s national speedway stadium. With a 22-point lead over Lambert in the Speedway GP standings, Zmarzlik heads to the final round at Polish track Torun on September 28 to collect an historic fifth World Championship gold medal and his third in as many years. The 29-year-old became only the second rider in speedway history to win three FIM Speedway World Championships on the bounce, matching New Zealand legend Ivan Mauger’s World Final hat-trick, achieved between 1968 and 1970.Zmarzlik is now tied on five world titles with Swedish icon Ove Fundin and stands just one short of the record haul of six, shared by Mauger and Swedish legend Tony Rickardsson. The Pole now has plenty of time to celebrate title No.5. But asked about the prospect of taking his place in FIM Speedway’s most elite club alongside Mauger and Rickardsson, Zmarzlik admits speculation about his next historic achievement is nothing new to him.
