Welcome to SGP2
The FIM Speedway under-21 World Championship Series!
After two years of dominance by Poland's Mateusz Cierniak, we will have a new FIM Speedway Under-21 world champion in 2024 as SGP2 heads to Malilla, Riga and Torun.
SGP2 gives the world’s top under-21 riders a dream opportunity to share the spotlight with the FIM Speedway Grand Prix elite as part of global promoters Warner Bros. Discovery Sports’ vision to build a pathway to the top for speedway’s next generation of stars.
Cierniak celebrated FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship gold for the second straight season in 2023, topping the podium in Prague and Gorzow, before defying a starting exclusion in the semi-finals to secure the gold medal at the title-decider in Vojens – becoming only the fourth rider in the sport’s history to win World Under-21 gold for a second time. But with the Lublin star now too old to compete at this level in 2024, there will be a new name on the SGP2 trophy. Who will follow Cierniak into the history books?
The race for junior speedway’s biggest prize gets underway at Malilla’s Skrotfrag Arena on Friday, June 14 with the FIM SGP2 of Sweden – Malilla, which takes place the day before the FIM Speedway GP of Sweden and the FIM Speedway Youth World Cup (SGP4) on a packed Saturday, June 15.
The championship then concludes with two rounds in September, starting with the FIM SGP2 of Latvia – Riga on Friday, September 6, as the young guns battle it out at Bikernieki – the nation’s most famous motorsport venue, which also hosts the FIM Speedway GP of Latvia on Saturday, September 7.
The champion will then be crowned on a huge weekend of racing at the FIM SGP2 of Poland – Torun on Friday, September 27 – the night before the FIM Speedway GP of Poland brings the FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship series to a climax on Saturday, September 28.
Sixteen riders will compete in each round with the majority of the riders making it via the qualifiers staged across Europe. The line-up will then be completed by wild cards chosen by the SGP Commission.
See the stars of the future shine in the SGP2 spotlight in 2024! Don’t miss the action in Malilla, Riga or Torun this season.
