WOFFINDEN & JANOWSKI RULED OUT OF SPEEDWAY GP IN VOJENSWOFFINDEN & JANOWSKI RULED OUT OF SPEEDWAY GP IN VOJENS

Triple Speedway GP world champion Tai Woffinden and Maciej Janowski have both withdrawn from the DeluxeHomeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on Saturday due to injury.

Czech racer Jan Kvech and German star Kai Huckenbeck are both called into the event – making their first Speedway GP appearances outside of their home countries.

Woffinden underwent surgery after suffering a broken hand in the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on September 2. Despite intense rehabilitation work following his operation, the penultimate Speedway GP round of 2023 comes too soon for him.

Meanwhile, Janowski sustained a broken ankle in a freak accident during Wroclaw’s PGE Ekstraliga play-off semi-final, second leg at home to Torun on Sunday. His clutch malfunctioned at the tapes just before the riders were placed under starter’s orders, with Janowski’s bike looping and landing on his ankle. Janowski underwent successful surgery in Poznan on Monday and has set his sights on a rapid return, although that will not come in Vojens.

With first substitute rider Andzejs Lebedevs of Latvia already in Saturday’s line-up as a replacement for injured Danish star Anders Thomsen, second reserve Kvech steps in.

It will be a hugely valuable experience for Kvech, who finished fifth at the FIM GP Challenge – the final round of the 2024 Speedway GP qualifiers – in Gislaved on August 19. If Challenge top two Jason Doyle and Martin Vaculik retain their places in the 2023 Speedway GP top six, Kvech will become a full-time SGP rider next year.

Meanwhile, Janowski’s place is taken by third substitute Huckenbeck, who raced as Wölk FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Teterow wild card this season and previously raced for Vojens club Sønderjylland Elite Speedway .

We wish Thomsen, Woffinden and Janowski a successful and speedy recovery.
