Slovak star Martin Vaculik insists the FIM Speedway Grand Prix field will be determined not to let Artem Laguta and Bartosz Zmarzlik dominate in 2022.
The pair won five Speedway GP rounds apiece last season – with Maciej Janowski the only other rider to top the podium.
Laguta pipped Zmarzlik to the Speedway GP World Championship by three points in an epic title race, which saw the Pole finish an incredible 40 points ahead of Emil Sayfutdinov in third.
Vaculik, who finished in 12th spot after an injury-plagued 2021 season, is one of the stars aiming to close the gap.
While Laguta and Zmarzlik could take some beating once again, Vaculik insists their rivals will leave no stone unturned in their search for speed.
“The other riders are not sleeping,” he said. “They are working hard and trying to catch them.
“We will see what happens. From year to year, it is not the same. Every year is different and for sure the riders like Bartek and Artem will be fast this season also. They are top riders in the speedway business. That’s for sure.
“There are so many other riders who want to be the best, don’t sleep and work hard. They are working hard with their teams and tuners, and we know in 2022 that it’s very important to have fast equipment. We are working on it.”
Vaculik has made no secret of his Speedway GP World Championship aspirations in the past.
But asked his goals for 2022, he replied: “I don’t want to say too much. I just want to give my best and we will see.
“Anything is possible in the sport. Everybody can beat everybody. I am just enjoying what I do and I feel good. I feel good in my Polish team, I feel good in my life and I feel good in speedway. I am just enjoying the moment and that’s the most important thing for me.”
