Great Britain hero Dan Bewley wrote his name in British speedway folklore when he ended the nation’s 15-year wait for an FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff winner on August 13, 2022.
But the big results just kept on coming as he followed that up by finishing second in the FIM GP Challenge in Glasgow just seven days later to book his place in the 2023 Speedway GP series, before winning the Betard FIM Wroclaw Speedway GP on his Polish home track.
Bewley only got his chance to shine in Speedway GP after Artem Laguta and Emil Sayfutdinov’s licences were suspended by the FIM – promoting Bewley into the line-up as the second substitute rider. He ended the season as world No.6.
He was not completely new to the world stage, having helped GB to FIM Speedway of Nations world-title gold in Manchester in October 2021. With Tai Woffinden injured on day one of the Final, Bewley stepped up to partner Lambert on day two, culminating in their 5-4 Grand Final win over Poland as the Lions celebrated their first world team title since 1989.
There are few things more spectacular in speedway than Bewley on the charge, and now he goes for Speedway GP gold in 2023.
