POLISH SHOOTING STAR KUBERA ROARS BACK ON TO SPEEDWAY GP STAGE IN TORUNPOLISH SHOOTING STAR KUBERA ROARS BACK ON TO SPEEDWAY GP STAGE IN TORUN

Polish racer Dominik Kubera gets a second chance to shine in the 2023 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series after being confirmed as DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun wild card.

Kubera dons the famous No.16 wild-card race jacket at the iconic Marian Rose Motoarena on September 30 – four and a half months after being cruelly denied the chance to race at the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw at PGE Narodowy on May 13.

The Lublin star suffered a freak crash in Qualifying Practice on May 12 and withdrew from the meeting.

Mercifully, he’s back on track and played a pivotal role in Poland’s charge to an unforgettable Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup victory at Wroclaw’s Olympic Stadium on July 29.

The Leszno-born racer is no stranger to Speedway GP and is a two-time finalist. He stormed to second place on his World Championship debut at FIM Lublin Speedway GP round five on August 6, 2021, before following up with third place in round six, part two of the double-header, 24 hours later.

Kubera’s last Speedway GP appearance saw him reach the FIM Swedish Speedway GP semi-finals in Malilla on August 14, 2021, finishing with 10 championship points.

He lines up in Torun alongside Lublin teammates Bartosz Zmarzlik, Fredrik Lindgren and Jack Holder, who will all be battling for medals in what’s set to be an epic final showdown of the season.

The line-up for the DeWalt FIM Torun Speedway GP is completed by two of the world’s top under-21 stars, double FIM SGP2 champion Mateusz Cierniak at No.17 and No.18 Bartlomiej Kowalski, who won FIM SGP2 bronze. They will take to the track if any of the main 16 riders are forced out of a race due to injury, illness, a starting offence or other reasons.

Lublin star Cierniak sealed FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship gold for the second straight season at legendary Danish track Vojens on September 16 – becoming only the fourth rider in history to win the title twice.

He was named as a track reserve for the 2019 FIM Wroclaw Speedway GP, but he did not take a ride – meaning he would make his Speedway GP debut if called into action in Torun.

Meanwhile, Wroclaw racer Kowalski will hope to build on reaching the FIM SGP2 rostrum after pipping Australia’s Keynan Rew in the battle for bronze.

He has made two previous Speedway GP appearances, most recently replacing Kubera following his Warsaw crash and scoring a very creditable four championship points at PGE Narodowy, where he stormed to a very popular heat win.
