Former World Under-21 champion Jakub Miskowiak has been unveiled as one of newly-promoted Vargarna’s top names for the 2024 Bauhaus Elitserien season.Miskowiak makes the switch from Lejonen, where he raced with four-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik. While Zmarzlik largely occupied the spotlight in Gislaved, more will be expected of Miskowiak as he joins the Wolves, lining up alongside the likes of former Speedway GP star Chris Harris, former SGP2 rider Kevin Juhl Pedersen, and Mateusz Tonder, Marcin Nowak, Daniel Henderson and Ludvig Lindgren.Elsewhere, Polish young gun Kacper Pludra has agreed terms with Rospiggarna, as he departs Gislaved’s Allsvenskan League team for pastures new and steps up into Sweden’s top flight in 2024.Speaking to the Hallstavik club’s official website, the Grudziadz star said: “I am looking forward to the coming season. “It feels exciting to take a place in the Swedish top league and I am happy that it is happening in Rospiggarna. In order to develop, I need to compete against the best riders in the world and not just in the Ekstraliga. Riding in Sweden gives me the opportunities to do that.”
SLASKI STADIUM FINALE FOR 2024 SEC SERIES
The 2024 Speedway European Championship winner will be crowned in Chorzow’s iconic Slaski Stadium on September 21.The winner of the continental series is guaranteed a place in the 2025 FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship. And with the FIM GP Challenge taking place in Pardubice on October 4 – much later than usual – the SEC champion will be among the first riders to secure their spot in Speedway GP for 2025, alongside the top six riders in the 2024 SGP World Championship.Poland’s first-ever world champion Jerzy Szczakiel saw off six-time champion Ivan Mauger to lift the 1973 FIM Speedway World Championship at the Slaski Stadium. The SEC finale was previously staged there in 2018 and 2019, with the latter event featuring an epic run-off that saw Speedway GP star and now three-time SEC champion Mikkel Michelsen beat Grigorii Laguta for his first gold medal in the competition.Karol Lejman of SEC promoter One Sport said: “We are returning to Slaski Stadium because the individual European champion deserves to receive the trophy in front of tens of thousands of fans. “Silesia is a region where fans love speedway, so the idea of bringing them all together to the stands of this legendary stadium seems right. “With two finals held at the Slaski Stadium in recent years, we are convinced that next year's tournament, both in terms of sport and organisation, will take place at the highest possible level.”FIM Europe president Michal Sikora said: “It's fantastic news that the Speedway Euro Championship is returning to the Slaski Stadium after a five-year break. “This is a legendary venue for the Polish speedway. The first gold medal for Poland was won by Jerzy Szczakiel in Chorzów 50 years ago. “I'm really lifted by this news because I remember the SEC events held in 2018 and 2019. I'm glad that the SEC series is still growing, and the promoters are looking for opportunities to provide fans and riders with unforgettable memories. I am already looking forward to September 21.”Tickets priced from 29 PLN are available at www.ebilet.pl and www.speedwayeuro.com.
DACKARNA EXTENSION FOR KURTZ
Dackarna boss Mikael Teurnberg admits Aussie ace Brady Kurtz “raised the level of the entire team” at the business end of the 2023 season as he brings him back to Malilla for 2024.Kurtz played a starring role as Dackarna saw off near neighbours Vastervik to win their second Bauhaus Elitserien title in three seasons. While the former Aussie champion was only a regular in the side from mid-season onwards, Teurnberg was elated with his impact. He said: “It feels good that we've agreed terms with Brady for a third season in Dackarna. He’s a guy who has development potential and he was a strong contributor to our success in 2023.“Brady's involvement from July onwards raised the level of the entire team. His attitude on the track with enormous toughness was contagious to the whole team. He has established himself as a very high-level rider and has many good years ahead of him. He is always positive and is popular among his teammates.“We have one place left to fill with an average of over 0.500, and we'll see what kind of name it will be. The squad feels very good, and we will be fighting for the top medals in 2024.”Kurtz joins forces with Speedway GP duo Dan Bewley and Andzejs Lebedevs, plus Rasmus Jensen, Timo Lahti, Ryan Douglas, Filip Hjelmland, Noel Wahlquist and Avon van Dyck.Elsewhere, Sammy van Dyck has completed a move away from Dackarna, joining Lejonen for 2024.And Ludvig Lindgren – younger brother of 2023 Speedway GP silver medallist Fredrik – has signed for newly-promoted Vargarna.
