MAGIC'S MALILLA BOOST
Polish racer Maciej Janowski admits his Swedish home comforts made all the difference as he finished third in the Kaeser FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla last Saturday.
Magic bounced back from a nightmare evening at the FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens, sponsored by ECCO on September 10, where he managed only two championship points.
Janowski stayed in Scandinavia and headed across to Sweden, where he has raced for Malilla club Dackarna in the Bauhaus Elitserien almost every season since 2016.
His familiar surroundings paid off as Janowski stormed to third place in the final behind newly-crowned triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik and home hero Freddie Lindgren.
The result leaves Magic seventh in the Speedway GP World Championship standings on 92 points – level with Lindgren in sixth but trailing the Swede on countback by virtue of Fast Freddie’s superior number of third places this year. They both have a second place each.
Having endured a night to forget just seven days earlier at the Vojens Speedway Center, Janowski was pleased to hit back in Malilla.
He said: “Finally we got a good result and I’m pleased, especially after Vojens. I am very proud. But we still have a hard job to do.
“We changed a few things. I knew I needed to breathe more. We spent the whole week in Sweden, and I had been thinking about many things – how to prepare the bikes.
“We can compare the Malilla track to how it is when I am representing my Swedish team Dackarna and we didn’t need to find the setup. From the beginning, my bike was working very well. We made a few changes during the meeting, but the night was good for us.”
Magic takes his bid to earn a place in the Speedway GP top six – and qualification for the 2023 Speedway GP series – to the final round of the year, the FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun on October 1.
