Biography

Danish star Mikkel Michelsen raced to his third Speedway European Championship in 2023 - adding to his 2019 and 2021 SEC triumphs - to book his place in the 2024 Speedway GP series. He made his full-time Speedway GP debut in 2020, finishing 14th, but it’s fair to say the opportunity came at short notice. He was called up just two weeks before the season started to replace the injured Martin Smolinski. After sitting out the 2021 series, he finished 11th in the 2022 Speedway GP standings, reaching finals at the opening two rounds in Croatia and Warsaw, where he was third and fourth respectively. After a season disrupted by injuries in 2022, he returned to the series as a wild card in 2023, taking 12th place. But having earned another shot on the sport's biggest stage with his SEC victory, he will be determined to climb higher in 2024.
