BIOGRAPHY

Artem Laguta cemented his spot in FIM Speedway Grand Prix history in 2021 after becoming the Motorcycling Federation of Russia’s first-ever speedway world champion.

With an astonishing five SpeedwayGP wins – matched by runner-up Bartosz Zmarzlik – Laguta won an epic title fight by three points, becoming the first-ever Asian-born world champion in the process.

Laguta has already taken speedway in his country to new heights, having won three straight FIM Speedway of Nations world titles alongside Emil Sayfutdinov from 2018 to 2020 – the first senior speedway world championships of any kind in MFR’s history.

This year he swaps his famous No.222, inspired by his motocross hero Antonio Cairoli, for the SpeedwayGP No.1 race jacket.

DID YOU KNOW? Laguta raced to 192 points in 2021 – the third highest points tally in FIM Speedway Grand Prix history, which is bettered only by the record of 196, shared by 2005 champion Tony Rickardsson and 2007 winner Nicki Pedersen.
