ZAGAR MAKES UK COMEBACK

Former Speedway GP star Matej Zagar ends his two-season absence from Britain’s Rowe Motor Oil Premiership after signing for Birmingham for 2025.
The 18-time Slovenian champion last appeared in the UK with Belle Vue in 2022. He also had a stint with the Aces from 2013 to 2016, as well as previously representing Reading, Swindon and Eastbourne.
While Zagar raced as 2024 FIM Speedway GP of Croatia wild card in April, he did not compete regularly in any of Europe’s leagues this year.
But he returns to action in Poland with Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga newcomers Tarnow in 2025, and now he will also compete for the Brummies, where he is joined by Polish star Tobiasz Musielak and rising star Jason Edwards.
Birmingham boss Nigel Tolley is backing the 41-year-old to star at Perry Barr. He said: “One thing that nobody can argue with is that Matej is an enormously talented speedway rider.
“He was a Grand Prix regular for over a decade in total and he won his national championships for 18 successive years – that takes some doing no matter who you are or who you are up against.
“When he last raced here a couple of years ago, he was very, very impressive around Belle Vue and he’s looking forward to tackling the away tracks in this league again.
“I’ve looked back at his previous scores around Birmingham the last time the club was in the top division, and some of them are very eye-catching.
“I think Matej’s experience in the sport could count for a lot for this year’s team and hopefully, he and Tobi will form a solid spearhead.”
