Join the ride behind the scenes with Wozniak and Hancock through the twists and turns of an emotional, rollercoaster campaign.
Hancock opens up on his 2013 Bydgoszcz teammate’s offer to join his crew to help him navigate the biggest season of his career so far.
He said: “When I got the phone call from Szymon, he said, ‘I’m 30 years old and I have finally qualified for the Grand Prix. I know I am good enough to race with these guys. I’m just looking for help in situations with track conditions or tracks themselves to avoid some of the things I might not know about. I really would like to have some help and advice, and I totally believe that you can do that for me.’ It was just the sincerity in his voice – how could I say no?! It was a no-brainer for me.”
Wozniak’s semi-final appearance at the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw had special significance as the Bydgoszcz racer’s father was in the crowd for the biggest night of his son’s career so far.
The former Gorzow star recalled: “When the first GP took place in Warsaw, I said to my father, ‘Come on! Let’s go to Warsaw and watch the meeting.’
“My father had a problem with his eyes and now he is almost blind. He said, ‘No, I don’t care. I would rather watch it on TV. But if you are going to take part in that meeting, I will be there.’ I told him, ‘I promise – I will be there once.’”
Wozniak delivered a big performance and Hancock was elated. He said: “To get to the semis the way he did and really push hard … We could feel the emotion. He wanted it so badly. You could see the look in his eye.
“Everybody wanted it for him. The crowd was going nuts. His parents were probably in tears. You could feel the energy flying. I will never forget that.”
