TUNGATE LOVING LIFE AT OXFORD
11/02/2025

Aussie racer Rohan Tungate admits his 2024 Rowe Motor Oil Premiership season with Oxford was “by far my most enjoyable year in British speedway.”
Tungate returned to Britain for the first time since 2022, claiming the Spires No.1 race jacket and earning a return for this season.
The two-time Australian champion tests himself in Poland’s PGE Ekstraliga for the first time in 2025 as he moves up with newly-promoted Rybnik.
He’s also delighted to be back at Oxford, and the former Ipswich, Poole, Swindon, Somerset, Belle Vue and Peterborough man admits his season at Cowley was a career highlight.
He said: “I actually loved racing back in Britain. It’s where I started my professional career. It wasn’t so good there just before Covid. But last year, I felt it was a good time to come back for a full season, and I didn’t look back.
"I really liked it and loved racing for Oxford. It’s a really good club and I enjoyed going there every week. In the past, I haven’t always enjoyed going to Britain. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed racing for most clubs, and I have had good memories in Britain. But last year, it was by far my most enjoyable year in British speedway.
“I can’t say anything bad about the team manager, Peter Schroeck. He was spot-on all year and just made us all feel so comfortable. Jamie Courtney, the promoter, was also really nice and made us feel welcome. My teammates were great too. I spent a lot of time with Magic (Maciej Janowski) travelling to and from Britain. We hung out on the day of the matches, and it just made it a good vibe there.
“We had a Polish guy, Piotr, who was taking us to the tracks. He picked us up from the airport and we always had a really cool day every time we were there. It just made it way more enjoyable when it was like that. Racing in Britain does not come with huge, huge money. But you have to enjoy yourself and I did that last year.”
