TONY STEELE 1955 - 2024

FIM Track Racing Commission member and legendary former FIM Speedway Grand Prix referee Tony Steele has passed away.

Tony established himself as one of the world’s leading referees, officiating at FIM Speedway events until 2010 and he continued to referee at British Speedway events.

Tony was a senior FIM Track Racing Commission member, serving as an FIM Jury president at numerous FIM Speedway events. He was also Autocycle Union (ACU) Vice President, Chairman of its Track Racing Commission and a member of Britain’s Speedway Control Bureau.

As well as a vastly experienced speedway official, Tony took charge of events in every track racing discipline from grass track to Long Track, Flat Track, Sidecars and Ice Racing.

He worked tirelessly behind the scenes as a much-respected member of the ACU, SCB and FIM Track Racing family, assisting with - among many things - the organisation of officials for the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain - Cardiff.

Everyone in the FIM Speedway family is grateful for his immense contribution to the sport and sends their condolences to his family and friends at this time.
