German shooting star Norick Blodorn secured a return to the FIM SGP2 line-up after reeling off a 15-point maximum to win his FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship qualifier in Debrecen on Saturday afternoon.

Blodorn last competed in the competition in 2023, finishing ninth, and now gets another shot at junior speedway’s biggest prize after going unbeaten in Hungary.

Also through to the SGP2 series is last year’s silver medallist Nazar Parnitskyi from Ukraine, who was second on 14 points.

A run-off was needed to decide the final two qualification places with Poland’s Kevin Malkiewicz, Sweden’s Casper Henriksson and Australia’s Mitch McDiarmid all tied on 11 points from five rides.

The Pole won the run-off to clinch third place, with the Swede second to secure his fourth straight season in the championship. McDiarmid fell short and must now hope for a permanent wild card.

Czech talent Adam Bednar, Denmark’s 2024 SGP2 star Jesper Knudsen and 2023 SGP3 champion Rasmus Karlsson of Sweden all missed the cut on nine points with another ex-SGP2 regular Nicolai Heiselberg of Denmark falling short on eight.

Today’s qualifiers join the eight riders who made it through the rounds in Glasgow and Pardubice on May 24, with the line-up set to be completed in the coming days by three permanent wild cards, selected by the SGP2 Commission.
