SAYFUTDINOV: BREAKING DOWN WALLSSAYFUTDINOV: BREAKING DOWN WALLS

Former world No.3 Emil Sayfutdinov revealed Ipswich boss Chris Louis broke down “so many hard walls” to bring him to the UK after confirming his departure from British speedway.

Sayfutdinov joined the Witches in 2023, with his successful stint at Foxhall climaxing in the club ending a 27-year search for a league title with Rowe Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final glory against Leicester. Their last championship came in their iconic 1998 season, which saw the likes of Tony Rickardsson, Tomasz Gollob, Scott Nicholls and Louis inspire the club to glory.

Posting on Facebook, Sayfutdinov was full of praise for the Witches. He wrote: “Three unforgettable years in British Speedway.

“It’s hard to put into words how much these seasons have meant to me. From the first day, I was welcomed with open arms — by the riders, the management, and especially the amazing fans. You made me feel at home, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

“I’ve grown so much as a rider and as a person, shared so many great moments, and built friendships that will last far beyond the track. Thank you all for the support, the cheers, and the memories. I’m wishing everyone the very best for the future. You’ll always have a place in my heart.

“Special thanks to Chris Louis who make this happen with hard work behind the scenes (believe me he was breaking down so many hard walls).

“Big thanks to my great friends Ian and Irene for the incredible work you have done for me. Without you guys, this would have been a lot harder (I know how much you hate working in the cold in March and cleaning bikes in the morning).

“Ritchie (team manager Ritchie Hawkins) … Thank you for being with all the riders all the time … Keep doing what you do, and you will be very successful!

“A biggest and warmest thanks to all British fans. You guys are truly amazing!!! I felt so great at each place I went, especially at Ipswich.

“It was an honour for me to represent Ipswich Witches for these years. Once a Witch, always a Witch.”
