POLISH SPEEDWAY GP & SWC WINNERS ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT
22/11/2024
Poland’s former Speedway GP silver medallist Krzysztof Kasprzak and 2013 FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun winner Adrian Miedzinski have both retired from racing.
Rumours of Kasprzak hanging up his kevlars had circulated in recent weeks, with the news confirmed in an interview with Interia.
The three-time Speedway GP winner and five-time FIM Speedway World Cup gold medallist admits it was a birthday wish from his mother that helped him make up his mind.
The 40-year-old said: “One day I asked my mother what she would like to get for her 60th birthday. She replied: ‘Son, finally peace and stress-free weekends, and mainly Sundays. After 41 years.’
“First, my father, the Polish champion (Zenon Kasprzak), rode, and then I rode with my brother Robert. I replied: ‘Mum, it's done.’ This is how my wonderful adventure and career ended. I thank all the people who helped me over the last 27 years and helped me achieve so many successes.”
Meanwhile, former FIM SWC winner Miedzinski suffered head injuries in a crash at Zielona Gora in August 2022. Despite getting back on track last year, he has opted to call time on his career.
In a video on his Facebook page, the 39-year-old Torun legend said: “I have made a decision that has been rattling around in my head, and it is not easy. It is about ending my speedway career.
“It was great that I had the opportunity to come back, but I wasn't ready for all of that. It was a great lesson for the head, which allowed me to move forward, to return to normality. Now, fortunately, everything is fine.”
Everyone involved in FIM Speedway wishes both riders all the best in the future.
