MICHELSEN CHASES DANISH TITLE NO.2 IN GRINDSTED
06/08/2024
Speedway GP star Mikkel Michelsen bids to make it back-to-back Danish Championships when he defends his crown in Grindsted on Wednesday.
The triple Speedway European Championship winner claimed his national title for the first time in 2023 and starts as favourite for Wednesday’s showdown as he bids to head into the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on August 17 on a huge high.
His Speedway GP rival Leon Madsen does not compete in Grindsted. But Michelsen faces off against the likes of two-time Danish champion Anders Thomsen and 2022 winner Rasmus Jensen, as well as seven-time Danish champion Niels Kristian Iversen and former World Under-21 champion Michael Jepsen Jensen.
The field also features the likes of Mads Hansen, Frederik Jakobsen, Andreas Lyager and Jonas Jeppesen, plus current SGP2 rider Bastian Pedersen and former SGP2 stars Benjamin Basso and Kevin Juhl Pedersen.
Denmark’s Motor Union (DMU) has confirmed that the outcome of Wednesday’s Danish Final will decide which riders represent the country in next season’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix qualifiers for the 2026 series, as well as the 2025 Speedway European Championship qualifiers.
It is unclear how many qualification spots will be up for grabs. The number of qualifying riders for each competition will be determined once places in the international rounds are allocated to countries by the FIM and FIM Europe.
