KUBERA WINS IN BYDGOSZCZ TO CLOSE GAP IN POLISH TITLE RACE

Speedway GP star Dominik Kubera stormed to victory at round two of the Polish Championship Final in Bydgoszcz on Saturday to leave the title race on a knife edge.

Kubera raced to a sensational 18 points – including three for winning the final ahead of second-placed SGP star Szymon Wozniak, Patryk Dudek in third and former world No.3 Maciej Janowski in fourth spot. He also earned a bonus point for picking up the most heat wins.

The result leaves the Lublin star second in the standings on 27 points – just two behind series leader Patryk Dudek on 29, who won the opening round in Lodz and scored 13 points in Bydgoszcz.

Kubera dropped just one point in the heats to cruise through to the final automatically alongside Janowski, who registered 14 of his own from five rides.

They were joined by Dudek, who scored 13 in the heats and won the last-chance race ahead of Wozniak, who also made the final cut. He scraped into the semi on seven. Former SGP2 rider Bartlomiej Kowalski was third in the semi after also qualifying on seven.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for four-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, who qualified for the semi-final on 11 points but crashed as he battled for the lead, ending his night.

But Zmarzlik is still handily placed on 26 in third as he prepares for the final round on his Polish home track Lublin on August 10. 

Janowski, who is fourth on 24 after collecting 14 in Bydgoszcz, is also still in the mix going into the title decider, with 10 points for Wozniak leaving him fifth on 19 overall.
