Torun heroes Patryk Dudek and Robert Lambert piled up 32 points between them as they fired their side into the PGE Ekstraliga play-off semi-finals.
Despite losing 51-39 away to Gorzow on Sunday and suffering a 99-81 aggregate loss, Torun claimed the lucky loser spot for the last four.
DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw wild card Dudek starred on 17 and Lambert racked up 15 just 24 hours after finishing third at the Olympic Stadium.
Torun matched Grudziadz’s 99-81 margin of defeat in their quarter final against Wroclaw. But having been placed fourth in the pre-play-off table with Grudziadz fifth, the Motoarena team advances.
Danish champion Anders Thomsen led Gorzow through to the semis on 13 paid 14 points, with young gun Oskar Paluch adding 11 paid 13. DeWalt FIM Wroclaw Speedway GP winner Martin Vaculik notched nine paid 10 and Szymon Wozniak added eight.
Torun now faces Lublin in the semi-finals, with Gorzow taking on Wroclaw. The first legs take place on either Friday or Sunday next weekend – either side of the OlyBet FIM Speedway GP of Latvia – Riga on Saturday night.
Lublin cruised into the semis with an emphatic 58-32 win at home to Zielona Gora, which sealed a commanding 112-67 aggregate victory.
Four-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik collected 13 points for Lublin, with Wroclaw runner-up Fredrik Lindgren accruing 11 paid 12. SGP2 champion Mateusz Cierniak added 10 paid 13 and Speedway GP rider Dominik Kubera scored 10 paid 11, while Jack Holder registered six paid eight.
Former Speedway GP rider Przemyslaw Pawlicki was Falubaz’s top performer on 12 points, with his brother Piotr and Rasmus Jensen adding eight each.
Former Speedway GP world champion Artem Laguta led the charge on 13 points as Wroclaw blazed to a 49-41 win away to Grudziadz to win their quarter final tie 99-81 on aggregate.
Laguta was well supported by an 11 paid 13-point tally from Dan Bewley, while Maciej Janowski notched nine paid 10 and Bartlomiej Kowalski picked up seven paid 10.
In-form Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen impressed on 12 paid 14 for Grudziadz, while Max Fricke tallied 10 paid 11.
