Speedway GP star Jason Doyle announced his Czestochowa return with 15 points, but it was not enough to deny his 2024 club Grudziadz a 51-39 win away to the Lions on Saturday.

Three wins and three second places from six outings marked a fine PGE Ekstraliga return for Doyle, whose 2024 season was ended by a torn rotator cuff last May.

But a 14-point tally from Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen inspired Grudziadz to victory, with Vadim Tarasenko notching nine, SGP star Max Fricke adding eight paid 10 and Jaimon Lidsey collecting eight paid nine.

Doyle was supported by a 10 paid 12-point total from Polish rider Piotr Pawlicki, with Kacper Woryna contributing eight.

Despite an opening home defeat, Pawlicki called on Czestochowa fans to stay behind the team. Posting on Facebook, he wrote: “Today we had a really tough match, which unfortunately ended in defeat. Although the result is not what we expected, let's remember that this is only the beginning of the season. This is the moment where we gather experience and learn from our mistakes.

“We're a tight-knit team that is not going to give up. There is a lot of work ahead, but with determination and hard work, we can achieve our goals. Looking forward with hope and the confidence in our abilities. Together, we can make it! Thank you for your support.”

The weekend’s PGE Ekstraliga action continues with newly-promoted Rybnik hosting Gorzow and Torun welcoming Wroclaw on Sunday.
