DANISH STAR MJJ UP FOR FIM SGP CHALLENGEDANISH STAR MJJ UP FOR FIM SGP CHALLENGE

Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen has his sights set on a Speedway GP comeback for 2026.

Jepsen Jensen is no stranger to the sport’s biggest stage, having won the FIM Speedway World Cup, the FIM Nordic Speedway GP at Vojens and the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship in an astonishing 2012 season.

He also raced in the Speedway GP series full-time in 2015, finishing 11th in the final standings, but MJJ has not appeared in the World Championship since he scored four points as FIM Danish Speedway GP wild card at Horsens in 2018.

Second place in the 2024 Danish Final has earned the rider one of his country’s spots in the 2025 Speedway GP qualifiers.

Jepsen Jensen ended last year in red-hot form for Polish PGE Ekstraliga club Grudziadz – helping the team reach the play-offs for the first time in its history, as well as winning the Danish Speedwayligaen title with Slangerup.

Now the 32-year-old is determined to fight his way through the qualifiers and earn a spot in the FIM SGP Challenge at Danish club Holsted on August 9, where four places in the 2026 Speedway GP series will be up for grabs.

He said: “I see it as a good opportunity to get back. I want to make sure everything around me is working. If it is and I feel good, anything can happen. I am super hungry now. It would be really fun to be back in the GPs.

“I felt my confidence growing meeting by meeting last year, as well as my trust in myself. I believe I can do something great and if I can continue this, I don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to go back into the GPs and compete.

“If I go back into the GPs, it’s not to just finish in the top six. I want to come in and win. If not, I don’t see any point in being there.

“Before the season started last time I was in there, realistically I knew it was probably not possible to win. If I go back in, it’s because I have the feeling that I can kick ass and I can win. If not, I would rather have my Saturdays off.”

He added: “I am at a point where if I don’t feel I can compete or I don’t believe things can get better, I would quit instead of having all the travel and all the hassle. I would rather get a normal day job if that’s the case.

"I am all in with speedway, but if it’s not going to work, I would rather do something else.

“If it happens, and I can compete in Speedway GP again, that would be the coolest thing ever. But if I can look myself in the mirror in one, five, 10 or 15 years and say, ‘I gave it this one last chance and did everything I could’, that’s fine. It doesn’t matter if it does or doesn’t work out. It’s just about me and the people around me knowing I have put in the work to make this possible.

“If it happens, that’s cool. If not, if I can look at myself in the mirror and say I did everything I could, then I can accept it.”

While Jepsen Jensen has been on the world stage for over a decade and a half, the 32-year-old knows he still has time on his side to push for a Speedway GP return.

He added: “I have been around for quite a while. My first season on the 500cc bikes was 2009. I think because of this, people think I am older than I actually am. Some of the generation before me is still racing and I still believe I have 10 good years in front of me.”
