Slovenian ace Matej Zagar will join FIM Speedway Grand Prix star Leon Madsen in leading Nordjysk Elite Speedway’s Danish Speedwayligaen challenge in 2022.

Zagar will line up as one of the Brovst side’s A riders, splitting the meetings with Madsen.

With the Ljubljana-born racer no longer competing full-time in the SpeedwayGP series, Zagar was keen to add to his matches with Polish First Division side Bydgoszcz.

He told the club’s website: “I look forward to racing for Nordjysk Elite Speedway in the Danish league. I’m not going to ride in the Grand Prix this year, so I was looking for a club where I could get some racing time.

“When Nordjysk Elite Speedway approached, it was easy for me to sign with the club. I have high expectations with the club. I always race to win, so I hope we can fight for the gold.”

Nordjysk Elite Speedway boss Janus Millard believes Zagar will prove the perfect replacement for Madsen when the world No.7 is unavailable.

He said: “We have always known that we had to find an A rider who could race the matches that Leon Madsen cannot.

“We have done our very best to find a world-class rider who can match the best Danish A riders, and we have got one in Matej Zagar.

“He is still one of the world’s best riders, and I am sure that he will raise the level both at Nordjysk Elite Speedway, but also in the Danish league in general.

“We now have two of the league’s strongest A riders, and the other clubs must really ride strong if they are to beat us in that area.”
